That's a fair point, although Wakey's success can hardly be considered as sustained - we had one good year too, this may well be theirs.
Also, whilst I don't disagree that they are probably one of the 'smaller clubs' in terms of spending, the fact that they average attendance is around 1300 more than ours won't do their coffers, and hence spending, any harm.

You make a good point but I'd argue that Wakey have now been in SL for several successive seasons and have gradually improved each year. McRae joined Salford when we were virtually relegated in 2007 and for Salford it was like starting again this year after being relegated and spending last year in NL1.
I think Kear has done a great job at Wakefield but I believe he's taken them as far as he possibly can with the finances available to him.
The point I was making in an earlier post was that to challenge for major honours year after year you need to have the finances behind you to keep hold of your best players whilst strengthening the squad with top quality signings each year.

My personal opinion is he wants to get sacked so he can concentrate on sky sports work.
Not particually its not great to watch but Mcrae can only play with what he has and what wants to play for him, if he feels we need to smother teams rather want to play rugby to get a result he will, he can send them out with a game plan but if the players are not going out and follow it then he is knackered.
Bigpev wrote:John Kear is on a similar or same budget
The difference between Kear and Mcrae is Kear's players want to achieve, they are mostly from NFP and have probably had a little chat with John Keir which highlighted the fact they are playing top level superleague week in week out and they need to perform for them to continued to be picked, He probably trust his players 100% that they will go out give 100% and follow his instructions to the letter.
The players probably trust Kear 100% because they know to have given them this life changing opportunity he rates them very highly to pick them out of the 2nd tear of Rugby league and give them the opportunity to perform at a higher level.
We have a few players who possibly feel they have achieved the pinicle of their career elsewhere and perhaps dot see salford as a vehicle to get back to that pinicle, Also with the fact that there are a fair few players out of contract at the end of the season is a massive factor, perhaps Mcrae hasnt given certain players reasurances the contract will come and they fear they are for the chop.
So you have the "i dont like Mcrae" and the "where is my contract? brigade not doing a massive lot at the moment
Dont perform Mcrae gets the boot new bloke comes in cant build a whole new team from scratch keeps the main body and trims the outsides not solving the problem.
It sounds like im just bagging the players, i dont want to sound like that, they are doing what only some of us can dream off and sometimes they dont realise it
The players can perform and would get that contract if they gave the same type of commitment to the cause which they did against Leeds and Saints and Hull, EVERY WEEK im not asking for the same skill levels just to be fully focus on the performance and achieving sucess and seeing salford as a stage where you can show case your talents not somewhere you can use to get futher up the ladder or somewhere to draw a wage every week.

You make a point there Rob about NL players at Wakey...I've said it before and I will say it again, McRea and Simms quite clearly don't watch any games from the NL's...if players in that league are good enough for Leeds to be taking a gamble on then why aren't they good enough for us???

Mcrae and simms obviously go for quality ( ie played in the NRL in oz) over hunger to achieve, problem is that tactic relys on the player so much that they see salford as a veacle to reach that success again.
I would like to add that all our imports and transfers this season after a shakey start have certainly made a huge difference and have taken us to the next level and if mcrae and simms go shopping again and come back with the same standard be it from oz, barrow or york ill be a very happy man.

Can agree with you on the imports, except smith at the minute... still waiting, will give him another season and see how he goes.
As with the players leaving because mcrea has lost the dressing room is not the case, now im no fan of mcrea , but my contacts within the club are saying that they can talk to mcrae as hes more approachable than rhino ever was, some dont agree with certain players playing out of position but they are gettin on with it , most players think that they will improve if they can stick to the game plan, but there are also players that will try and do there own thing if its not goin to plan to try and change the game to our addvantage but most players dont go with it.It was put to me plain and simple, that if the team dont perform as one unit then there are always goin to be players that look like that they should not be in the team, but should also add that a lot of players want new contracts and are frustrated when games go as they did on sunday.
Sorry if the spelling is not so good as i was typing fast, and not to good anyway.

Seems to be an emdemic problem at the club that coaches lose the dressing room, surely this can't be a coincidence that keeps continually reoccuring.

Maybe I'm being naive here, but I'm not sure it's ever really been true.
IIRC Andy Greg lost the respect of the players becauase of his drinking-related antics. I'm not sure that John Harvey or Steve McCormack ever really had the respect of the players due to lack of status.
Karl Harrison however was meant to have 'lost the dressing room' but the players seemed gutted once he'd gone, saying they realised it was their fault he'd gone, due to their poor performances on the pitch. I can't remember anyone saying they'd lost faith in him, or respect for him?
Same with Sean McRae - it's only on here that people are saying that he must've lost the dressing room, as an explanation for disappointing/inconsistent performances on the pitch.
I'm not sure it's the real reason, or even that it's true, and 'fans' like DogPie and st ives won't convince me otherwise.

Just to be clear here: I didn't say that McRae has lost the dressing room or that he is a poor coach.
The truth is I don't know McRae the man or McRae the coach: I've never spoken to him.
I wouldn't want to be judge, jury and executioner on the guy, I just don't know enough to be able to judge.
I thought the comments on our forum form a couple of the Hull FC guys were interesting. They appear to be experiencing some the same things with their current coach and comparing him to McRae's time at Hull.
I remember seeing McRae at the last game before he returned to Australia (originally for a bereavement I think), The FC fans brought a tear to his eye.
It' a difficult position for all at the club. I would like to think that there is a way forward for the club without the coaching merry-go-round and media attention.
I try NOT to get too carried away with things on here because ultimately this is why forums exist.

I agree, your aways stronger together as a team than you are on your own, dont try and be a hero and come out of the arm wrestle.
