Salford has shaped him into the player he has become. As Salford fans that know, watch, and interact with the people that perform on the pitch and those that run things off it, we are in a more knowledgeable position than those wishing to comment on something that has piqued their interest over half a season. Myler has natural talent. But natural talent alone does not make you consistent, stand-out, confident, balanced amongst other things. Salford must be doing something right with the young guys. Whether you know or not, there is a lot of very good young players coming through. I'd be surprised if the likes of Turner, Ratchford, and Adamson (If they continue the way they are going) to become RL big guns. Not to mention the fringe youngsters eager to improve.
While I will agree that if Myler considers himself the best in the business he should move on to get the most out of a short career I disagree with the fact that my Club did nothing more than to play him regularly to develop him into what he is.
As for Warrington. They wouldn't be the first club to throw lots of money at a problem in hope of some short-term success. They are a club with lots of potential, but we have all been saying that for at least ten years...
My interest in Myler has not piqued in the last 6 months as I have in fact watched the lad for a good couple of years going back to his academy days with Widnes and was disappointed that he was never properly given a chance in the first team.
He has had that chance now and done well out of it but from watching his development he would have been the player he is now at any club he joined.. Widnes, Salford, Workington, Keighley, Leeds, Saints. His guile and speed of thought have always been in evidence as has his bossiness that is often needed of a good-half-back. You say that natural talent does not make you consistent but I would argue that is not true. If anything natural talent is what gives you these things.. the ability to perform at a high level with ease.
The only thing different now is that he has had a little more exposure.
You can be forgiven for thinking that you have honed the lad into the star he is now as the first you probably heard of him was when he signed on your dotted line, but you only need to go over to the Widnes board to see how highly he was regarded as a player and how disappointed we were to lose him.
The major difference at Warrington now from back then is the culture... Smith has demanded changes and been given the freedom to carry them out whereas Cullen asked for them and was rejected and Lowes... well that speaks for itself and you know enough about Lowes yourselves.
