Are not the Olympics Sport so therefore lie with the remit of the head of sport. There will be nothing to do until 2011 DEcember at the earliest because most of the stadia will not be ready until after then, so camera and Tv boxes positions can only be planned after they open. It looks to me like a lot of the sports staff don't want to move north and this will be the reason, the BBC will in effect have two sports departments and hence double the cost because southern jessies are too scared to come North.
Not strictly true fella my company are one of the main sponsors, I forget now but it's something like one of the main eight sponsors who've paid the MEGA BUCKS (multi millions) for this priveledge and we have had a team of shall we say company "high rollers" projected to London 2012 for over a year now already. It's safe to say there is plenty going on behind the scenes.

I'm sure there is, but that is nothing to do with the BBC. The job of BBC Sports is to cover sporting events and broadcast them on the BBC. There might be a few docementaries leading up to the Olympics showing the athletes' preparations, but there is absolutely no need for a separate department to be set up at the BBC (using licence payers money) until 2011 at the earliest.

I'd guess that a department already exists within the sports department to cover the Olympics anyway, its only every 4 years so why wouldn't there be.
Anyway lets get back to topic - NEW STADIUM
this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

why don't we put a running track around it and offer it to London for 2012, that would save them money and give us a state of the £150m stadium, saving London over £1billion it will cost for a stadium which will be built down there and knocked down after the event.
A few more events could be staged here as well, cycling and swimming to name but two, there i have saved the Olympic committee nearly £2billion and i have not even thought about all the events. They could just stage it in Manchester and save £8billion, but Seb Coe wants it all for them down south and will spend other people's money to get it as his legacy.

The fact is, as long, drawn out and depressing as the process has been for us so far - we are a long way down the line and we will see significant movement soon.
