J.W. along with our other loyal directors have not got never ending deep pockets, maybe the money did go to the tax man, who knows, but at least we are & wont be in the position to go into administration as some clubs are at the moment.
I cannot believe the negativity on this forum from some supposedly "LOYAL FANS", ok have an opinion, but to question John Wilkinsons credability to Salford Reds + his commitment I find it appalling. We all know we are not the richest club in S.L but we are very solvent. When I go shopping, I cant afford to shop at Harvey Nicks & the likes, so I go to Primark, hence, the club dont have a mega rich sugar daddy as some SL clubs so we spend according to our means. Smithy, I know you are or were involved with the local amm. rugby, do you not think it is great when "young talent" breaks into a squad, that is what is happening to an extent this season at Salford, who knows what gems we may uncover, ALL superstars were nobodies to start with but with commitment & the right coaching who knows where it will lead.
Lets all have a bit of positive outlook about OUR club for a change & get behind who we have signed & see where it leads. If we have a major crap season, I will hold my hands up & you can come back on here & say "I told you so".
As for Niel72, the stadium will come into fruition, in the next year aswell.
If you are all so concerned about the lack of quality players coming in, Im willing to put £100 into a kitty now, & if all the people such as yourself & smithy68 ARE so concerned along with a few others who post on here would be willing to do the same, Im sure we would have enough to go out & buy (what you are all crying out for) "a top signing" If the club is doing so badly, why have we got the likes of Stefan Ratchford, Luke Adamson, Lewis Palfrey, Jack Spencer all coming through.
You all seem good at whingeing & moaning, but wont do anything about it, some of you wont even buy a raffle ticket or support Forever Reds, who support the youngsters coming through. It makes me feel proud when I see them getting a chance in the 1st team squad & think we helped them get there.
If you are interested in "joining in the kitty to buy a BIG signing" you can contact me on here, I will be waiting!!!!!!
The crap as started early! face facts we are not well supported so you need to cut your cloth accordingly. The club need to keep its finance in order. We are only still in super league in todays game based on the crowds we get, only because Salford have kept tight finances on running the club well.
At least a new stadium will give our club a chance, I for one am glad we are giving young British talent a chance instead of paying for over rated Aussis coming for a fat cheque.
We must accept we are going to finish in the bottom 4 & if you believe this is not good enough you can go & watch the money bags in Warrington or Wigan.
Smithy/WWF/Neil are totally clueless about running a business, applying for a Franchise and the effects of the Recession.
Quite honestly I am staggered that we have even a club to support in 2010.
We are fortunate in having some terrific Directors who work endlessly without pay, some marvellous sponsors and a team which is brimful of BRITISH YOUTH. This is the way to go and as soon as we have maybe just a couple of Overseas Signings to operate at Barton (Inglis & Whatmough would be my choice lol) the better.
Get real Smithy and understand you are following a club which has been in business 95 years and still not within the grasp of the Inland Revenue unlike 4 current Super League clubs and many more in the other 2 League.

if we can get 1000 members in Forever Reds that £10,000 straight away before we start any fund raising, which with so many members could easily see Forever Reds turning over £100,000 , this could not only provide the youngsters with all the club tracksuits and training gear etc but could also fund a player. Simples, but it appears that many who come to matches do just that, come, watch and go, they will complain about what they see and expect somebody else to pay for their pleasure. We are not at full salary cap we are at about 5/8ths of it. We have spent years throwing good money after bad players on a retirement plan from Australia, we are not warrington with bottomless pit and a very good accountant, so now we have to develop our own and it is about time too. Wigan are doing the same, they are not the money bags team anymore, but they can play with a full salary cap.
Why don't we all start to build up the club from now with a view to getting as many new or ex fans back on the terraces, negativity on this board is not the way to build the club. Everything is not rosey in the garden but with the fans help we could make it better and we can not expect Dr John to keep paying for us out of his own pocket. The ground will come it is up to us to fill it and pay for a team that Dr John fully deserves for all his good work

Great post Pev, the fact is that if just 10% of the Salford fans who constantly moan (let's face it we all stand/sit near at least one) were to join Forever Reds we could really make a difference to the club. As it is we are left with a supporters trust that has fewer members than Swinton's. To those who like to moan about the club's direction yet are not prepared to make even the slightest bit of effort to do something about it may I suggest that what you are getting is the rugby league club you deserve.

two great posts! infact most of the real down to earth people who have posted on this thread have it spot on!
we all moan at times about the club but there is only a certain few people that will actually do anything about it,
you could argue that with you buying a ticket/season ticket, you are doing your bit, but 2000 season ticket holders and whatever other tickets that get sold isnt enough to buy us these 'big' players
as has been said previously, youth isnt such a bad thing, ratchford, adamson, spencer and of course myler and turner, they are young and are playing at superleague clubs
look at the likes of eastmond tomkins and sam burgess they are all under 22 and playing at the highest possible stage you can play, who is to say that salford are not going to have some younger members of the squad making international appearences next year?
its either going to get praised for having a young squad if we do well, or go against us if we get pummeled week in week out but i will back the club no matter what and i am glad young british players are getting chance to prove themselves at such a high level!
