Ive been involved in setting junior teams up in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Newcastle, Oxford, Runcorn and now in Manchester.
Ive never been to a place where a rugby league session doesnt get kids there. The game is hugely popular. The difficult thing is getting committees set up, coaches and venues. So many people say "kids should be given more to do" but so few are willing to get involved.
That said the RFL work fantastically hard alongside clubs to establish those structures. Im very enthusiastic about the future of RL to be fair. Also, ive noticed about an 85-15% sway in favour of RL over RU. A lot of kids get frightened in rucks and mauls and athletic kids love running and dodging. To them is very similar to bulldogs and they all love that!
The problem is people who feel loyal to RU in other areas. They do it cos they always have. But the more kids learn RL then as they are older and perhaps become teachers it will be their game, not RU.
If both codes had just been invented, RU wouldnt take of and league would in the same way that Twenty 20 would dominate cricket and 5 day would seem a pointless idea.
Its all about tradition - but traditions evolve!
Have to say, with all the help and the kids im working with Salford are my second team now!!!!
Be loyal be loud, be Cas, be proud - wherever in the world you are!

CT, you know you want to make us your First team, it makes sense, anybody at Red Hall put you forward for an award for all this spreading of the Gospel. I know the problem with the RU dwellers most just go for the occasion and not the game, but as RL has grown over the last 25 years in Universities this now needs to spread into the pollulation as a whole as these graduates go out into the world especially teaching. Unfortunately there are some schools in the state sector who will not allow League to be played, as for the private sector I watched a programme a few months back where the kids were indoctrinated with the view that RL was a working class game by their PE teacher who was some ex-Yawnian Emglish international, I can not remember the name.
