Few surprises. My question is, how can Anderson confidently select so many players that have barely reached 10 SL games? We took a fairly good side over to the last tour yet still got taught a lesson by PNG, I fear for what would happen with this side due to lack of experience.
Matt Ashton (Warrington Wolves), Jon Bennison* (St Helens), Jack Broadbent (Leeds Rhinos), Jack Brown* (Hull FC), Matt English (Huddersfield Giants), Morgan Gannon (Leeds Rhinos), Sam Halsall, Ethan Havard (both Wigan Warriors), Tom Holroyd (both Leeds Rhinos), Jordan Lane (Hull FC), Mikey Lewis, Jez Litten* (both Hull KR), Ellis Longstaff (Warrington Wolves), James McDonnell, Matt Nicholson*, Brad O’Neill*, Oliver Partington (all Wigan Warriors), Will Pryce (Huddersfield Giants), Harry Smith, Morgan Smithies (both Wigan Warriors), Josh Thewlis* (Warrington Wolves), Liam Tindall* (Leeds Rhinos), Jake Trueman (Castleford Tigers), Danny Walker (Warrington Wolves), Matt Whitley (Catalans Dragons), Jake Wingfield* (St Helens), Connor Wrench (Warrington Wolves)
Of course there is lack of experience because of the relative ages of the players. Don't know everything about them all but those i have seen play for their respective club sides, there is some promising talent. I do think however though, if rumours are right, that 3/4 of these lads will be starring with new clubs in 2023.
Some very promising players in there. But it's a lazily picked squad. They've just chosen anyone who has played for any of the bigger clubs. Some of the Wigan players are just bang averge and always will be (Partington and Smith for example) and will drop out of contention once they join Salford or Leigh. The likes of Bennison and Tindall haven't actually done anything to suggest an inclusion in this squad and are players like Longstaff ever going to have the size to compete at international level? It looks doubtful.
There's a few lads at Wakefield who are unlucky not to be in this. But they're not really looking if we're honest.
