He has come out in the press stating that the salary cap has killed the game in this country and that some clubs might aswell just grab a random person off the street and stick a playing jersey on them. That’s exactly what I’ve been saying the teams at the bottom of SL do.
Love him or loathe him, but he is bang on. The salary cap has utterly decimated the sport in this country
You don't introduce a salary cap to stop clubs going bust. It's not up to the game to stop clubs spending beyond there means.
A salary cap should be used to ensure the competition remains competitive but that's not what we have.
Offiah probably earned more when he was playing than what players earn now which is simply ridiculous.
We have a cap which is far too low in comparison to similar competitions ie nrl and rugby union.
Even with such a low cap the supporters of the cap can't even argue that it produces a really competitive competition even if the quality on display has decreased.
What we have is a competition dominated by a small amount of clubs and with the double whammy of the standard getting worse year on year.
How anyone can still argue that SL needs the salary cap is beyond me. It doesn't work unless all you want from the game is clubs don't go bust while offering very little on the pitch.

The cap is too low, but then again that does benefit certain owners who want to do things on the cheap.
It is frankly embarrassing when I think how much entertainment some players have given me, and the short and long term health problems that playing the game at high level can lead to, and compare that to how little they earn in this country. And that amount looks like it isn't going to rise significantly any time soon.
“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”
anyway the salary cap worked it brought other clubs closer to the top, until it was introduced there was only one club winning Wigan not even the beloved saints or Leeds was could match them at that time, as a fan of a club destining not to see a title of any kind due to the of comps now I wonder what is the point of bothering of watching
yeah lets remove the cap it will be fun watch your rich clubs fight over couple of trophy's to see which one falls first

Something has to give either way, as the same clubs keep on challenging for honours year after year. The standard of SL this year has been nothing short of atrocious, losing fans who are fed up of the stale spectacle and not attracting anyone new. As a previous poster said our cap doesn’t even reflect current inflation.
DONT TOUCH THE WATCH
