Apparently they approached him but couldn't match the offer Rovers where giving him.

Us real fans don't look over our shoulder at our neighbours and do whatever we can to get one over on them. We look at the bigger picture. And this is the reason why Rovers are and will forever be considered a small club. Because their fans and board would rather get one over on Hull FC above anything else.
Quite sad, really!
SPOT ON!

I'm not convinced, it makes sense that Saints don't want to splurge the cash on an NRL fringe player when they've got 2 or 3 good young halves on the fringe of the first team, but why waste a quota spot?

There would have been a queue of Super league clubs approaching him but why leave a club on the up and where he is probably playing the best rugby of his career.

"Apparently" as in his agent talked it up to get him more wedge. Our chairman has said on several occasions that he wont be getting anyone in to replace long as we have young players ready to fill the gap

That's what I thought.
Good deal for Dobson. He'll be on a decent wage and has three years to really build a reputation, while still being young enough at the end of the deal to return to Oz and have a tilt at SOO/International duty if he wants to.
