Hansen and Leuluai were trained here, so don't count, but that still leaves 8 which is the max you are allowed this year. Smith definitely and Phelps probably are going home after this year.

That's not the rule anymore, it's about where the player was trained.

Exceptions

There are three exceptions for a player to avoid quota player status. Those are listed below:-

1. When a player has played for a rugby team for six years, he is eligible to gain British citizenship and does not count under the quota.

2. If the player has a passport for any EU nation or a Kolpak nation.

3. If the player is from a Kolpak nation such as Samoa or Tonga.

Richards, Carmont and Fat Feka aren't federation trained, though they may fall under the loophole the RFL magically shat out at the end of last season when some clubs realised they had too many stiffs under contract.
