A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. Well, if the charges are dropped then you could say that that his club and the NRL conspired to ruin his career by prejudging and assuming he was guilty before the facts were fully known and he'd stood trial. Essentially they have hounded him out.
In the super League, because it's more of a minority sport then the players don't make the column inches too much so that the RFL can let things ride and let the courts deal with the issues. This seems a much more mature way. Over here in Sydney the press have been wetting themselves over the Stewart case and words like "scandal" are being freely used when so far only half an alleged garbled story has been told by the father who has apparently done time for fraud - so I would suggest that some may decide that he may not be the most straightforward and honest of people.
Something appears to have gone on, and I would not be surprised if Stewart gets downgraded to some sort of common assault charge while drunk and ends up fined and community service after a deal. But this is just my guess....

The 25-year-old, who on Thursday flew in from France where he is playing for the Catalans rugby league team, had his one common assault charge upgraded to five charges but believes the evidence of three security guards and security video will clear him.
"Three security officers are able not only to give evidence, but to give evidence to the effect that he was the victim in this matter," his solicitor Patrick Conaghan told the court.
