Ive been there a number of times. Too many times, its a boring, dump of a place.
The fact is, when people go to Australia, they go to Sydney. They dont say "Oh I'm going to Australia to see Melbourne" because that takes all of five long boring minutes.

10,000 at the trial game in Perth last night. Not bad considering tickets were around $30+ and it was valentines night. Good start. Hopefully we can get nearer 15,000 for the real game in June.
WEST COAST PIRATES NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......

Even if it was it doesn't alter the fact the biggest spectator sport in Australia is rules by quite a margin.
It may have come from union - unlikely given its make up
In my limited experience I enjoyed Melbourne far more than Sydney - and I lived in Sydney nine months - for Melbourne was far more cultured more interesting and a greater diversity of population. Your view is typical of the attitude of most Sydney bods - but then you would not expect them to get culture
their fans and administrators brag its an australian game unlike RL.
thats a blatant lie.
when fagan revealed his article he was derided by the AFL and its fans.
they cant handle the truth.
melbourne is dead boring but its good to go to relax for a couple of days.
like i said before the NRL is an international competition. so including new zealand in the mix we are well ahead of AFL.
and the population of nsw and queensland exceeds the rest of australia as well.

presumably Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane are as well as they all get AFL crowds that better the majority of NRL clubs (or is Melbourne not having anything to do just a poor excuse?)

Let's hope you don't play on Valentine's Night then, when you get back into the NRL.
