After 3 years of televised matches now the question will soon need to be asked if there is any benifits to having the 2 nd tier televised

On average I would guess that the attendances at these matches is down on what they would be if played at the weekend

So that leaves the question , are the clubs seeing any benifit either from increased sponsorship/investment interest by this coverage ?

If the answer is no then perhaps it is time to look at a change of format to a highlights programme instead of a single live game

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Why guess? All clubs publish their attendances...

But as I'm not going to plough through them all I'm making a guess based on what I have seen in recent weeks

The gate at Leigh verses Widnes was definatley down on previous years , yes both clubs are not at the top fighting for promotion so that may have an impact

But looking at some of the other matches they dont seem to be breaking any pots especially when the clubs normally give out 200 family tickets allowing a potential 800 people in for free

Half way through our 3 rd year of televised matches I cannot see any real benifits from the coverage from the competition or the clubs point of view

If you can see different please give your opinion , that is what these boards are for after all arent they

I'm sure I also heard the ref say 'I can see why you play rugby and not football' - or words to that effect. Perhaps he's looking for a stand up comic spot somewhere.

Nope – if you want to argue that the costs of televising games in the Championship, in terms of effect on attendances, outways the benefits: the burden falls on you to provide the evidence (it is, as pointed out, available and easy to gather).

But you can't seriously expect anyone to engage with you if all you offer as supporting evidence to back up your point is guesses and supposition.

Personally, I've no idea what the effect is on crowds (either generally or at the televised games themselves) or finances of clubs. But then, I'm not the one arguing for an end to televised games.
