what we are at now is pretty much the highest the game has ever had.
in the 80s a big crowd in sydney was 10,000 in the 90s it was 20,000 now we are pushing 30,000 for the biggest games.
10,000 in th 80s comes as a shock to me, i had assumed that the Winfield cup had acheived a peak of popularity then?, but now i know better. Anyway its probably time all of the critics focused on the positives in the game rather than the empty seats in an 80000 seater stadium.

dragons vs sharks sold out hours before kickoff feels good too be back home on one of the best grounds ever in rugby league history
winning like never before. decoys. mouse traps. chicken wings. lollie pops. shepperds. the crusher. grapples. big league. In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

RL in 1995 was the strongest its ever been
but in terms of crowds the last 3 years have much higher crowd averages.
having watched RL in sydney since the 1980s, to see 30,000 or more at club games it used to be unheard of.
even now when we get 20,000 people dont make a big deal about it, but up until 1995 it was a massive crowd.
we got 38,000 for dogs / roosters last year and it was brilliant..
clubs like the dogs, souths and tigers can average over 30,000.

The Cowboys always get better than average crowds even when they struggle
Newcastle do well when their team is competing.
parra have had a few crowds over 20k, especially in bigger games but they never averaged over 20k. their stadium capacity is only 20k now since the got rid of the hills. i have heard it was getting increased to 30k but i dont think anything is being done in the near future.
Its time for a change! We need to get rid of the idiots running the RLIF before they damage the sport beyond repair!
