yes really!

So using that argument, you would have slated the signings of JD and Obst then???
Do you not think they have proven themselves to be a benefit to our game??
P.S l would prefer to have not signed him....but needs must....and to be fair they are quite unfortunate/unusual needs!
Marsdengiant wrote: Back to topic. Is our game served well when a team who has been in SL for a decade has to opt for NRL reserve graders?
Is our game served well when SL teams are bringing any foreigners over rather than developing their own. We have a coach who has a good record at spotting potenial in a player and helping them develop it, he appears to have found another one that hasn't cost us much in wages but may well have a impact on SL this season, so what?
How many foreigners do you have in your squad because regardless of how old or experienced they are, they are taking a spot than one of your young players could have taken, so don't start trying to take the moral high ground regarding signing foreign players until you've got a fully British squad
vastman wrote:Should we all sign big fat NZ players on big money like a certain club which shouldn't need to due to having the worlds most fantastic production line of talent? I'll tell you this much I suspect Winterstien will likely bring more to SL than Greg Eastwood will should he ever arrive.
with your lack of knowledge of RL, it doesnt surprise me one bit, though i think this is more an attempt at a cheap shot at leeds, you still a bit upset about getting spanked off the leeds board earlier this week? let it go, its nothing, making ridiculous statements in anger just makes you look even more silly
Quote:Sam Obst arrived as an unknown and has been a credit to the game and I am yet to see a British player I would even come close to replacing him with.
see above
Quote:As for playing young British players Wakefields recent record holds up rather well these days.
If you were there last friday you will have seen Pitts, Bibb, Ferguson, Atkins, Snitch, Gleeson, Blaymire and Blake play. All eight were given their SL chance at Wakefield. Whilst only five of the 17 were overseas, 2 of whom in JD and Obst have been here that long they can apply for citizenship or does that only work for you if it's a certain Saints prop as we know your hypocrisy on these issues knows no bounds.
all this is lovely, but largely irrellevant to the FACT that Wakefield have gone out and signed a fringe NRL player who cannot be described as anything but a 'punt', this player now takes them up to 10 Overseas players for this season outof a 25 man squad, the NRL has provided more players for wakefield than wakefield have
your argument regard wakefield not being able to afford to scout the UK and bring through players like Leeds do, rings very hollow when they can afford to scout Australia and bring over fringe youngsters to give them a shot, why not go get a british youngster and give them a shot?

So you're slating us for signing a young Samoan player who's development will help the Samoan national team while at the same time suggesting that we sign a player from France that would not be elligable to play for England

With our massive injury crisis and Illness effecting our squad we have been forced into making signings like this. At least at Wakey you could say our young lads are not getting shoved aside for Aussies that are no better.
well clearly they are, or they arent even getting the chance in the first place, this is Wakefields eleventh season in SL and they still rely more on overseas players than their own academy,
it is embarrassing for the game, that still, when looking for a player to fill a gap, second and third string NRL players are the fallback rather than the youngsters we have and the players playing elsewhere,
there really is no justification for it

yes, we have a duty to help france, the same as australia have a duty to help the pacific nations and NZ

yes, our league is improved by bringing over top quality, international quality overseas players,
it is not improved by clubs bringing over 2nd and 3rd string NRL players to fill the gaps left by their under-invested failing youth systems

5 (some include Finneagn but the RFL say he is a Brit). Of the 5 3 are GF winners. 2 have NZ caps and one has several SOO appearances.
Rumoured we are signing Fulton. he played 21 times lastseason and has won a GF
I would be appalled if the giants tried to sign a reserve grader.
So young Cudjoe knows he is not picked because SOO player Brett Hodgson is there. he can be mentored by a top Oz player. There is some wakey reserve grade player who will not get picked because of an Oz reserve grade player from whom he will probably learn very little. And when Brett goes back Leroy will have learned from a brilliant guy and still be only 22/23.
