I genuinely think this is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard. It actually makes no sense, and the fact that the OP can't realise that is quite frightening!

How can you have a "Top 8" play-offs in the middle of the season when you don't know who the top 8 are? Unless you are saying we have the top 8 at that current point in time where everyone may not have even played each other once yet, in which case is even more ridiculous.

And how are they even play-offs if they aren't at the end of the season? They're just another knock-out competition then.

Absolutely bonkers! You should really have your head checked, the idea is that stupid. And I'm trying to be nice!

He is struggling to find employment at the moment. I am going to nominate him for Gordon Brown's economic think tank. Laughter will be the fastest way out of this recession.

This suggestion reminds me of a letter in Viz years ago which suggested they should play the final of Wimbledon on the first day, as that was when the grass courts were in the best condition.

What do you think?

I'll have a pint of whatever you had last night.

Quite simply the best/most bonkers thread I've ever seen.

I can't decide if you're clinically insane or have merely been at the magic mushrooms  .

In answer to the original question: "Should We Have The Play Offs In July/August?", my answer is yes, the SL Play Offs should be held in August/early September. How could it be done?

3 weeks of play offs involving 8 teams (on a straight knockout basis) could be held there as the conclusion to a shortened SL regular season comprising 19/20 rounds - where SL clubs play all the others once, and half the clubs a second time. English SL clubs could make up the necessary fixtures by taking part in the Northern Rail Cup (expanded to 32 clubs), without their test players. Catalans, Toulouse and Celtic could form a similar competition with French clubs. This could allow for an expanded test program from which the test team could prepare well enough seriously challenge the Kangaroos and Kiwis.

That would give each club only 10 home games apiece, resulting in a sizeable drop in revenue. There is also the matter of the Sky Tv contract. This would also take us back to the uneven fixture list which we've only just managed to get rid of.
