It is refusing to honour its £125 million pound 4 year SPL deal unless they renegotiate.
This is putting a squeeze on NRL,BUNDESLIGA etc
Sorry but that sounds like setanta propoganda to me.
£125 million contract V probably less than 100k they pay for NRL secondary rights through fox?!?!
The point i cant understand with this scernario is that they get up to three games anyway....the argument that they are having problems with premiership and SPL rights should surely mean MORE NRL and more Bundesleiga etc. as these are the cheaper contracts so therefore they can fill more airtime with these if they are struggling with other rights.
In terms of entertainment value v cost of the contract, to a general sporting consumer, the NRL contract is far more efficient than any of the other rights. Therefore i cant understand why contractual problems elseweher would lead to a reduction in NRL?!?! surely this coverage would be increased to reduce dead airtime.
Seems silly business to me. Every RL fan would rather pay full whack setanta fees and get the 3 nrl games per week promised rather than get 1 for half price. So rather than reduce their revenue streams further when they are having funding problems, why dont they just show the NRL that they have paid the rights for anyway?! Its not like theres any additional broadcast costs as well. they're just taking a direct feed from fox etc?
Smacks of lunacy and/or a load of old bull excrement if you ask me!!
