No, I’m saying all opinions aren’t equal, Whatever value you want to give mine, yours or anyone else’s is really up to you, and frankly not particularly of interest to me. What I was drawing attention to was a repeated mistake vastpants makes, which is to confuse the right to express an opinion being universally the same and the validity of said opinion being the same, which is clearly nonsense

Which is why I said arguably.

Mars wrote:In addition, the fact that a player played in a better team does not necessarily imply that they as an individual had a better season. Did Craig Bellamy have a better season as a non-key player in a strong Liverpool team in 2006/7 or as a key player in a fairly average West Ham team in 2008/9?

You are over simpifying. It may be true for Vella and Cooke (and possibly for Newton and Galea) but many of Rovers key players last season were not key players at their previous clubs. Don't be so certain that your opinion is the right opinion.

I aren't certain that my opinion is the right one, which is why I said arguably.
But going on what your opinion is of a better season (being a key player rather than a bit part player) that rules out most of the players that I have said did have a better season. The youngsters have probably had better seasons in worse teams. Some have played very little rugby this year and so definitely wouldn't be classed as key players. You can't have it both ways.
I would say (IMO and apparently the opinion of others) that because these players have achieved more in their careers than last year, they have had better years in their careers. I think you've been extremely biased in your assessment of some players (Gene especially, who played 21 games in the SL for Bradford in his stint there AND in the WCC scoring a try so I wouldn't call him a bit-part player in the slightest).

Mars wrote:Is that an order or just a recommendation?

Who am I to make orders? If you don't want to be criticised, get your facts right. Seems like good advice.

Mars wrote:I personally don't have the time or the inclination to research in detail every single point I make for fear of criticism from the likes of you or anyone else. I honestly couldn't give a monkey's. I am a little surprised that you think I might...

Just to clarify, the point I was trying to make was that Hull KR probably overachieved last season. That is my opinion. I have agreed that the comment that followed was probably slightly over the top but it wasn't intended to be taken quite so literally.

If your trying to make a point though, things are going to be taken literally (especially if it's to degrade someone/something). If you have to exaggerate a point to make it, the point gets lost.
Rovers finished 7th, which to me isn't really much of an achievement. They were well off the play-offs points-wise and 2 points off 10th. They certainly had a better season than previous. Where they better than Huddersfield, Wakefield and Harlequins? Well they didn't beat any of them three teams in the league so you may have a point!

Mars wrote:I actually feel bad that I might have ruined GJB's evening. Not so with Zod since he will more than likely have been sedated by 8pm.

I am a little suprised you think he gives a monkeys, especially since you were suprised that you thought I thought you gave a monkeys?

Mars wrote:Well that is very generous of you, Wellsy. I am happy that comment received your blessing.

I just agreed with you and you've still got a problem with it!

Mars wrote:P.S. I really don't want to fall out with a fellow Hull FC fan

It's only a discussion board, mate. Nobody's falling out with anyone, don't worry about it.
Basically, I highlighted a point that I (and definitely Rovers fans) thought was wrong. You have yourself even agreed that you was over-the-top with it. I don't think there is a problem here anymore really.

He never said all opinions are equal though, just your two opinions. The validity of the two said opinions is more or less the same (unless you are saying your opinion is more valid than his?)

And as I said it was a common mistake vastpants makes, it is odd to give two opposing opinions the same validity, in this example it is absurd as only one could possibly be correct.

Do I give my opinion more validity than his? Certainly, otherwise it wouldn’t be my opinion would it, you wouldn’t hold an opinion you knew or thought to be incorrect would you? It is my opinion that his opinion is idiotic (frankly I would be mildly surprised if that is actually his opinion) because I believe him to be an idiot. I believe my opinion to be correct, this is why I hold it, if I didn’t believe it to be correct it wouldn’t be my opinion

Does that mean you have to believe my opinion has more validity than anyone else’s? No, you can value whichever opinion you want at whatever value you wish, that is your right in a free society

Had Rovers lost the last derby at Craven Park on the final day of the season I believe they would have dropped to a 10th place finish (3rd bottom). I assume this would not then be classed as a successful season?

Did one result make that much difference in the end?

Where a team finishes is determined by 27 fixtures and not just the final one.
Although giving us 2 valuable league points it meant no more and no less than the 2 other occasions that we beat you last season.
