another example is the widnes cup final(amatuer) is usually played at the stobarts but it was decided they would play it somewhere else because of the high rent at the stobarts. a lot of new stadiums claim to be community stadiums but then charge the community a ransom to use them.

Leigh Miners were never involved in the LSV - Leigh East have got a new clubhouse, 3G pitches and grass pitches as part of the LSV complex. Although it hasn't been without it's problems (rent and not being given the number of pitches they were promised), it has provided them with facilities that could only be dreamed of at Grasmere Street.

As for Swinton, would be great for them to get a proper ground in their own area again rather than continue to stagnate at Sedgeley Park. Might finally see the return of some atmosphere at the games.

Leigh Genesis FC?

IIRC, they weren't best pleased with the amount of stewarding that the council seemed to be insisting on.

I'm sure we did the land survey for this a month or 2 ago. Hope it all goes through for you.

Happy time...

That was a case of a council run stadium being run to the exact requirements of the Green Guide, and the shock of the costs involved in that when compared to the rates at Hilton Park, where stewards worked for free or a nomial fee, something that the Stadium Management Company weren't willing to do (they wanted to be the employers of all the stewards and as such had to pay a 'proper' wage etc).

All sorted now though, touch wood.

it will be much heralded if Swinton finally get a ground of their own, Station Rd is much missed.

Might be a tad controversial, but I think even Gigg Lane is missed. Not got the facts to back it up (can't find many archive attendances online) but I'm got a hunch that they got better crowds at Bury than they do these days.

If this comes off then the "excuses" of other clubs in getting new grounds becomes interesting!

Happens at the KC. Initially it was thought that local cup finals and such would be played at the stadium but the high cost and the relutance of Hull City to allow others onto the pitch means that Craven Park is more often than not used.

THE INDEPENDANT: Today the east, which contains the biggest council estate in Europe, is poor, a place of high unemployment and low expectation. The west, which has the city centre and the university, is posh and prosperous.

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
