:) So you are quite happy with the code being played under different rules? I'm assuming you will have Super League playing with 2 refs then the rest of the leagues playing under different rules?

One thing I found interesting from the Broncos v Storm game was how tired the forwards were in the latter stages of the game (has the NRL also gone down to 10 interchanges?).

If this is as a result of the game being faster and the 10 being consistent all through the game then it is quite interesting, but a lot of the NRL players have some fitness work to do.

I actually thought that the game really dropped off in the last 15 minutes, and there is something to be said for it being an endurance battle, however the standard was poor, with dropped balls left right and centre, missed tackles and players simply out on their feet. It may have had something to do with the weather too, as the ref was drenched in sweat too.

Just because there are two referees the rules do not change. It is no different to the addition of in-goal judges and video refs at higher levels of the game.

But neither is the game identical at every level. It is obviously much faster at its elite than junior football, and so more difficult for one person to keep track of everything. To think the job of the referee is the same regardless of level is naïve.

Very true!

I think that there is much more of a need for a second ref than the goal line ref who lets be fair does not alot during the game apart from drink from his water bottle

Go hard, or go home

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. We do not need to speed the game up. It is fast enough as it is, we are playing rugby not British Bulldog.

Expert Opinion ..End referee system that isn't working . THE NRL'S chief operating officer Graham Annesley said if the two-referee system wasn't working it would be reviewed.
Well, it's time for the review because it's not working and it's costing teams games.

It's easy for people to accuse me of running an agenda to take the heat off my players. And while it's true my timing might not be perfect, something has to be said.

The fact is every coach in the NRL thinks the same as me but are reluctant to say it publicly for fear of being fined.

I was part of the process that instigated the two-ref system when it was first slated by the NRL. I initially liked the idea because I was of the belief it would help our refs perform under fatigue and eliminate the grapple tackle and wrestle.

And while it's good that the grapple is gone, I believe teams are paying for a glaring inconsistency in experience.

As late as last year we used to struggle to find eight referees up to NRL standard. Today, we are trying to fill 16 spots - and the depth just isn't there.

It's why last week in Adelaide we got lumbered with two refs with a combined experience of 12 NRL games. Then, 24 hours later at Leichhardt Oval, the Wests Tigers and Melbourne had Tony Archer and Shayne Hayne, with over 300 games between them, run out together.

The NRL needed two referee's for two reasons:

1. The NRL was so fast that a single referee had so much work to do that by the end of games when they needed to be at their best, they were tired. The two refs share the work load and therefore get better decisions across the entire game.

2. The NRL is at the cutting edge in terms of defensive tactics. To combat this extra officials were needed to keep and eye on these tactics.

Super League doesnt need two refs for a few reasons.

1. Defense doesnt exist in SL, so there is no need to monitor defensive tactics.

2. English referee's are not good anyway, you could have 37 of them on the field and it would make no difference.

3. You Poms dont care enough about the quality of football you watch, so why would you care if the standard of officiating was lifted?

4. The best English official in the last 50 years was an Australian....who is back in Australia now. So you dont have any good officials...let alone enough for two refs per SL game.

5. The game in England is dying and your worried about refs?
