I'm guessing that if a player misses a tackle but one or more of his teammates stops the opponent it counts as an individual missed tackle but not a team missed tackle. In which case each team missed tackle presumably results in a try, with the other tries conceded happening when nobody gets close enough to attempt a tackle.

I could be wrong - it wouldn't be the first or last time.

Actually its the opposite way around

Now would be a good time to test the theory.

Leeds have only conceded two tries in the three games and both of those were from kicks so not really as a result of missed tackles.

Need to keep thinking about this one.

Possibly these team missed tackles, rather than missing someone running with the ball, missed a kicker who then got his kick away. In this situation a team missed tackle need not result in an opposition try.

I knew I'd get something wrong.

But then you'd expect there'd be many more than three 'missed tackles' accumulated in 240 minutes, so I'm not buying that interpretation either.

Without an explanation from Opta I think we're p1ssing in the wind on this one.

In another early season query, Paul McShane (Leeds) has got two (fairly identical) passes away for tries. The one to Lee Smith V Celtic (Sky) was deemed worthy of a try assist from Opta, the one to Ryan Hall V Hull KR (Sky) wasn't. If anything he did slightly more for the Hall try than the Smith one.

If such alarming discrepancies are typical, they render anything Opta come out with as fairly worthless.
