Now the RFL have killed off Magic weekend we need a new idea.

So, a kids team vs a team made up of mascots in their costumes. You could have a tournament every year to deside which kids team gets to play in the following years game. Play it somewhere decent instead of Bellend road and the fans will flock to it.

They do it in america...

Yes. Replace a showcase SL event with an nfl half time event that no one watches because they are at the bar.

No wonder Bradford are where they are

It was innovative packages of entertainment that saw Bradford getting 20k crowds when everyone else couldn't be faffed. And that cost of doing so had zero bearing on subsequent financial difficulties.

p.s. Bradford are better than Penrith

It's that sort of narrow minded small time thinking that stands in the way of progress.

It's a good job the people that invented the wheel or fire didn't listen to people like you. Or we'd still be eating raw meat and you'd have to carry your TV, Fridge etc. when you moved cave.

What innovative packages were those?

You have only had 20k and above 8 times and 7 of those were against Leeds.

7 of those 8 were between 1999 and 2005.

I'm not convinced that pre-game entertainment puts bums on seats. People go to the rugby to watch a game of rugby. Not to see a parade of cars, a cabaret act, and a firework display.

You can't deny that it adds to the fan experience, but it doesn't significantly increase attendances. Other clubs could pull in a 20k crowd in those days without novelty entertainment. Living and working in Bradford during the Bullmania years, I can tell you that it was the on-field success and good marketing that brought people to Odsal.

I heard figures for the entertainment budget during the height of Bullmania, and some of it was eye-watering. You won't tell me that the money wouldn't have been better spent elsewhere. The financial history of the club, and the lack of renovations in decades, shows money needed to be spent more wisely.

I think the same with Leigh's entertainment budget. Nobody is going to watch a b-list Brit-Pop band. They are going for the rugby. If the rumours are to believed, the sound system alone is £6k per week to rent, and north of £20k has been spent on a single matchday just on entertainment. That money would be better invested elsewhere, and when the wins stop coming the crowds will drop back down to 3-4k again.

You only got 20k crowds when Leeds brought more fans than the home fans lol

It also had nothing to do with “innovative packages”. Bradford’s match day experience consisted of…nothing. It was just the Leeds fans making up the numbers at that relic of a ground.

Odsal is awful but on a summers day that uniquely massive amount of space on different levels enabled a lot of things to be put in place to keep kids happy. And happy kids meant happy families so the crowds went up markedly because parents could watch the game, safe in the knowledge that the kids were safe and entertained.

Our crowds rocketed before we won anything. In many instances, that era of kids are now spectators and even players.

OK OK we get it we were Leeds' cup final so they traveled in numbers no need to be so angry about it. You get your cup final back as a pre-season friendly that's got to have made your Christmas
