SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

No he was passing comment on peoples personal wealth like a petty little schoolboy
Is that all you want , a sport that is dependant upon who can get the wealthiest backer , and they then spend the most money to buy all the best players
If so then say so

Think you're the only person that read it that way. God knows how though.

I have always been against the salary cap and always will be.
Clubs who have the wealthiest backers won't necessarily win all the trophies.
In Wigan's halcyon days they weren't the wealthiest club, Leeds were.
Leeds had a bigger squad, bigger wage bill but didn't win much at all.
The NRL has been a massive success whilst having a salary cap.
That is what needs to be looked at, the reasons why the RFL & SL have failed us compared to the NRL.
Only then will the RFL & SL failures become apparent and they have nothing to do with the salary cap.
The SC is a diversion from the real problems the RFL is avoiding.

Actually, Leeds desperate attempts to overhaul Wigan in the 1980's and 1990's led to near liquidation and Wigan's attempts to stay ahead of the pack didn't leave them in a much better state.
Using Wigan and Leeds from that era as an argument against a salary cap is not the best idea.
Quote:Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.
