The University of Leeds is the umbrella for both universities and is currently undertaking a £390 million improvement programme. It is hoped and anticipated that Leeds University will be ranked in the top 25 universities in the world within the next 10 years.
There are concerns from some academics to the direction with regard to student fees/funding, but this has no impact on the finances what so ever.
Leeds isn't an umbrella for both universities, they are not connected.
Leeds isn't a rich university either but its in a stable financial position because they haven't spent beyond their means.
Both unis have a potentially very bright future because Leeds is a popular city with students and Leeds at least had a good result in last years RAE, I think Leeds Met is pretty good at what it offers students in terms of vocational courses with well supported placements, however the previous management has left the new VC with a mess to clean up. They spent a lot of money that they didn't have, on things they didn't need.
