On the ferry back to the Isle of Man after the 2008 Grand Final a group of us decided it'd be a good idea to try to start up a supporters group for Rugby League fans who live here and also to try to promote the game a bit more over here.
As a starting point to this we have arranged with the Welbeck Hotel in Douglas to let us use their function room on Friday nights to watch the Super League games on the big screen (subject to it not being pre-booked by paying guests). This will also be a useful time and place for us all to meet up.
Our first meeting / match to watch will be Saints v Warrington next Friday (13 Feb), and then hopefully every Friday after that.
If anyone on here lives in the Isle of Man, or if you have friends here who might be interested then please let me know.
Please contact Stephen (email - abu447@talk21.com) for further details.

I am currently staying in Douglas until the end of Feb so will make it down on that Friday. We're Edge Hill students doing teacher training at Castle Rushen, Bala, and St Ninians and this is one of our placements.

How's life on the Isle of Man these days? don't know much about it other than they had a few Charity Shields there in the 80s/90s and that the Fast Show lampooned the island's reluctance to decriminalise sodomy.

I went to a few Charity Shields there. Quite a bizarre place, granted we never ventured beyond the pubs & clubs of Douglas. It was like a half way house between Ireland & Liverpool.

Not sure where to start here as I'm still very drunk.
Thanks to everybody that came along tonight to the Welbeck. We had 13 fans in all (just the right number you might say), We got 7 Saints, 2 Warrington, 1 Bradford and 3 neutrals.
It was a fun night, meeting lots of RL fans from different backgrounds. We're hoping that in future we can reduce the overall reliance on Saints and have a trully equal Rugby League fans base.
Hopefully we can press on from here. Next weekend we'll be meeting at the same place to watch Hull KR V Leeds. I expect there'll be a lot of Hull KR fans with St.Helens accents but I hope we can get some Leeds fans along as well. We'll be trying to organise something for the Warrington v Catalans game next Saturday too.
Goodnight all.
P.S. That was a general reply. Nice to meet you mattbee and the other teacher trainees. Hopefully we'll meet again next weekend before you head back to England.
