I think this is a big part of it. I've seen several signings where this was mentioned specifically in the press release, most recently with Kyle Wood at Halifax.
I think that SL wages have largely stood still over recent years, so squad players at SL teams are effectively worse off than they were a few years back. As they come towards the latter part of their careers, there must come a point where they are thinking that they are going to be better off starting their post-playing career and going P/T
Did I see that Joel Tomkins was 'doing an Elliot Kear' and joining the fire service? You can't blame players for doing this. It's a short career and apart from the very top guys they are just won't earn enough to not need a 'second' career
I think we'll start to see this more and more in coming years, even with 'name' players - unless more money comes into the game and the salary cap is raised.
