That is such a strange stipulation on the £500k parachute payment. I suppose it is so that they know the money was spent on the squad rather than just being squandered, but it's still odd to me.

I'd rather Chalmers wasn't involved at all. I feel the fears over Koukash wouldn't be there if one of his known mates wasn't the chairman, so you'd kill that bird with the same stone. As well as getting rid of Chalmers, who I've said before I wouldn't trust as far as I could kick him.

I think it's more a case of the parachute payment being intended towards ensuring some of those players that lose their pay/contracts due to relegation can be looked after. The parachute payment in football is supposed to be to help the club pay existing contracts (they don't get ripped up on relegation like in RL), and I suspect this is something along the same lines. Derek has just twisted the words a bit to sound like he's the victim, as he seems to have done with most of that statement.

The problem with Degsy (if indeed it is a problem) is that he is a fan of his club, just as we are of ours, and therefore can't understand why players are more interested in themselves than the club.
This does however show the plight of a sport that relies on 'sugar daddies'. Compare this with the premier league that have reported today that 10 clubs last year made a profit before they even sold a single admission ticket.

Very true. At the end of the day players will likely have families and a roof to put over their own heads, not to mention a whole lof of life after sport to consider. I'm sure players are totally committed to their team mates and the club when everything is running smoothly, but like any other bloke, in any other kind of job, when the money stops then other priorities come to the fore and rightly so.

Did he? Or was it just a collision of massive egos?

Yeah maybe. At least Beaumont is moving to reduce Leigh’s liabilities and has gone public.

I got to shell out on a “cheap” season ticket before that became worthless and the club was liquidated. Followed by the most pointless hiding to nothing that last season was. Just so that it didn’t look like he was trading insolvent.

I know which approach I prefer.

No arguments from me on that.
