I've been given music lessons for christmas and always wanted to learn the drums so going to give it a go but living in a terrace with thin walls a real drum kit is probably not going to go down well ( a lad up the road sends half the street crazy with his) so I've decided to look into electronic drum kits.

I did have a small yamaha dd 55 about 5 years ago but to be blunt I didn't really like it and want something that atleast resembles a drum kit.

My local music shop recommended the yamaha dtx 400 which was around £350. I've seen cheaper kits but don't really know if they are worth touching, I'd hoped to spend upto £300 but if the kits under that price are nothing but junk then it will be worth stretching for the yamaha.

Anyone on here any experience with electronic drum kits. Someone suggested to me buying an acoustic kit and just putting practice pads on it but that seems a bit of a waste as I'll never be able to play it properly.

Drum machines tend to play differently to real drums, so decide which you want to learn to play first :)
