I'm a big fan of this book - it's a really dark, clever, dystopic cyberpunk type affair, with the characteristic that marks all food sci-fi - you can almost imagine it actually happening; so I was looking forward to the TV series hitting Netflix, especially after such a good job was made of The Expanse.

I've watched 3 episodes so far, and I'm really impressed; Joel Kinnaman is bit hard work in the lead role - I find him a bit wooden and 1D in pretty much everything I've seen him do - but it works rather well in this, as the main character is somewhat robotic - at first anyway.

It's very hard sci-fi, and thankfully doesn't feel the need to do loads of backstory and explanation - just drops you straight into a dark future world, where consciousness is stored on a chip, and the body is just a disposable 'sleeve' that can be discarded when it suffers damage; the central theme is how the super wealthy elite have taken ownership of the process to effectively live forever, so there are lots of moral and ethical issues, as well as some tasty action and good old fashioned film noir detective stylings; and a sentient hotel. Really impressive - if you're a fan of the genre, I would strongly recommend it - but buy the book as well.
