All of a sudden, and not including the various transatlantic ones, there turns out to be a number of series that are very watchable.

I tuned in to River, and it proved to be strangely compelling and different. Enjoyed that.

War and Peace is period costume drama done as only the Beeb can.

Shetland is back and promising to be as good as last time.

Dickensian has just been a treat. The brainwave of comping up with a story involving simultaneous interaction between many of Dickens' best loved characters really is a stroke of genius, and the staging, casting and costumes have been flawless.

And then coming up is a very interesting sounding new series with James Nesbitt, who for me has a good track record, Lucky Man.

To name but some. Throw in the imminent return of The Fall, and X-Files (treble Gillian Andersons all round!) and I need another pair of eyes.

Deutschland 83 is my current TV crush.

Deutschland 83 is very good - 100 code is also worth watching.

I'm also looking forward to the new X Files - but can't help feeling that it won't be that great due to channel 5 outbidding any other UK stations.

I'm playing catch up - just started watching season 2 of the brilliant 'The Returned' and I've fallen back in amour with it already; it's sumptuous to look at, brilliantly acted and delightfully creepy. I don't care that I still don't really know what the hell is going on - I'm just enjoying the journey.

Just started on season 1 of The Tunnel from 2013 - looks very good. Made by the team who brought us Broadchurch and stars Stephen Dillane of Game of Thrones fame (Stannis). The plot follows the two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. The killer—who comes to be nicknamed the "Truth Terrorist"—is on a moral crusade to highlight many social problems, terrorising both countries in the process.
