Interesting development. Is this the reaction people were wanting / expecting?

Not sure who they will manage to entice to HQ but it needs to be high profile with significant experience.

It sounds like the new role will be responsible for appointing coaches etc. If that's the case I can't see GH getting rid of Smith, that will be the job of the new appointment.

Its exactly what they have needed to do, glad they recognise that.

He tried it and left because he wasn't enjoying it.

I think he's quite happy coaching rather than having all that responsibility to be honest.

In all seriousness, it looks like a succession plan. If the job spec on the club website is accurate, it will take an awful lot of decision making around recruitment and staff management from GH. I can't imagine it would have been easy for him to relinquish those roles. Perhaps Paul Caddick has made the decision?

Absolutely the correct decision, it was impossible to ever outrun so many fundamentally bad decisions when it comes to transfers, coaches and squad building. But the problem is this will only work if the person coming in is genuinely talented at the job. I find it extremely concerning the bit about possibly recruiting from within, I would be fuming if this was a pretend position to make us look like we're trying something new but in reality he's just GH's lackey. I wouldn't even want it to be a former player, it needs to be someone that is skilled at analysing players, coaches and squad building. That specifically is the skill we're looking for everything else like being a former player is irrelevant. Being a former player for us has zero bearing on whether they'd do this job successfully.
