Shame for the lad, but we simply have carried too many injury prone liabilities last few years, and that’s a pretty big chunk of cap gone.

Can't see the Dulls being able to afford his wages. I reckon it's only 50% off his cap figure.

Unless he's just agreed a release.

Suspect it was more accept the deal or we cut you under employment law due to persistent injuries.

I wouldn't like Leeds to use any sort of threat like that. He's suffered injuries as a result of his 'job'. If word got out that we did that a lot of players would be put off.

I wouldn't be surprised if its a release but Leeds helping pay a part of his salary to make it work for him like toosmooth suggests. The alternative for Walker would have been to hang on at Leeds and then get loaned out as Smith clearly doesn't see him in future plans. A clean break makes sense, but a big pay cut wouldn't.

My understanding is that any severance payment like the one you suggest would count on the cap. If we are paying it this year, it counts on this year's cap. Risky?

Think we will be paying a lump of his wages in a similar fashion to the Warriors with Fusitua. Maybe the initial idea was for Hull to sign him, thereby freeing up the space to keep Zak, but Walker's injury scuppered that. Best laid plans etc

I suspect you are correct. If we're not subsidising his wages, and I were Jack, I'd have played in the reserves to prove my fitness and waited for a chance at Leeds or with another SL club. It's hard to believe that he's taken such a wage cut when it wasn't necessary at a time of a cost of living squeeze.

Interesting interview with Walker and Craig Harrison on YouTube.

Harrison claiming Bradford paying Walker the biggest salary since Orford (possibly in jest) and it's the biggest transfer for them in a decade.

Also Walker citing no short turn arounds and a full week to get his body right between games as a key factor.

Good luck to the lad. It's a huge gamble by Bradford tho IMHO if the contract is a large one.

Crikey if that's the case it sounds like he's already of the mind that his body just isn't up to the demands of SL. Really feel for him and hope he comes back strong and can stay that way but that's quite a telling comment for someone still s young in the game.
