Smith mentioned him as a wing or centre. Seems likely that along with some of the other signings this is about adding to depth with the hope one or more step up in quality. Good luck to him anyway.

I'm all fir young British players that are showing potential but we need some quality in the starting 17.

Going to be another difficult year unless RS can get the new players competing at a top 4 SL level

Just isn’t happening this off season. In a year you have prior, Tetevano, Sezer, Austin, fusitua, c smith, Bentley and Donaldson all off contract. That’s maybe 8 players from the starting 17, so clearly it is going to be next year when the major change comes. This year is about adding depth and some options, hopefully a couple step up the year after which means we can spend what we need to on a couple of players and upgrade on what we already have

I suspect LPR is correct, Ute that just massively underlines how shockingly badly our cap has been managed.

Agree with both of you.

I just think we still look as far away from regular top 2-4 as we have for years...unless the new players play above their current levels and older/injured / often banned players have much stronger or more consistent season.

2024 seems a long way away but if in a year ish we are here again ( losing lots of players, signing lower league prospects ,at cap limit, no big improvements to the top 17) then it's going to suck,a lot.

Hardaker is likely to be the only loss in quality from this season into next. Dwyer had already been passed by O'Connor, Sutcliffe was blah and may yet be replaced by an upgrade (supposedly MacDonald), and the other departures (Briscoe, Mustapha, Thompson etc) were squad players anyway.

Its interesting that a lot of these new young players are joining on quite short deals. It feels like Rhinos Got Talent - no doubt not all will make it, some will end up back in the Championship, but the aim is to unearth a couple of gems.

The cap has been managed horribly, not just in wages, but overlong contracts have really bitten us. It feels like the club is starting to play hardball with players, and about time. That is far easier if we have young, hungry squad players wanting to get and stay in the first team.

There are some enormous recruiting decisions for 2024. We might even see some big(ger) name signings.
