I’d say you’re right. There are three possible outcomes: 1) ball is kicked between the posts, two points. 2) ball doesn’t go between the posts but goes dead, drop out. 3) ball doesn’t go between the posts but stays in play, play on. The only caveat for play on in the last scenario is that the ref thinks it was a genuine attempt at goal.
