Warriors and Hull to Play Super League Opener on Oz
In a groundbreaking initiative it has just been announced that Wigan Warriors will face Hull FC in Australia for the opening Super League 2018 fixture.



RLFANS.COM understand that the two sides will each play a pre-season friendly against NRL opposition following the meeting at the WIN Stadium in Wollongong on Saturday 10th February in a Super League fixture.

Sounds a bit daft to me coming straight after the WC. If England don't perform they'll probably get ridiculed by the Aussie media too.If the fans want to pay for it good luck to them. Not that fussed about Oz myself or I'd have gone to the WC, although I wouldn't mind experiencing an Origin game!

I don't see the point. I can't see the locals turning up for a lower quality game than they're used to. Cant see many fans travelling over. Seems a waste of money by the clubs, for little exposure.

You'd be better playing games in one of the European countries where RL is trying to expand

It's an initiative led by NSW/Illawarra, who are funding the two clubs' travel in an effort to boost the local economy. It's a business decision made by the clubs who'll have their own reasons for accepting the offer, and neither Wigan or Hull have an obligation to drive expansion themselves.

I take your point that there are locations that would better serve this purpose, but that has to be driven by the RFL/NRL with a cohesive plan & strategy, and there simply isn't one. The RFL have no cash, and certainly don't have the expertise.
