Leeds is a good opportunity or a poisoned chalice whichever way you look at it - but what we do have is a lot of junior talent coming through, which I think would greatly appeal to Arthur. Rowley also.

Thing with Blease leading this is that he might make the appointment and consider different candidates than GH would, but if it comes down to paying Arthur £400k per year to get him, will GH and the board back that?

I don't know but I reckon Arthur would cost around double whatever they were paying Smith, and we've also taken on Blease's salary. We also need cash to go after a couple of really good overseas players IMO, and use the Marquee allowance. If we're serious about winning again we're going to have to stop trying to do it on a shoestring.

If Arthur would cost £400k pa , I reckon that will be 3 times what Smith was on, it’s one reason I think it will be Rowley

Would that even work? Would he even bother?

I think it would be possible to say to Arthur, why don’t you come in on a deal until end of the season, we can see if we fancy you, you can see if you fancy us and enjoy UK life. If the answer to both is Yes we do a longer deal, if either party is not keen we part amicably and then we could move for Rowley for 2025.

Arthur may not go for that but we could say quite openly we ended up paying out a lot for Furner and Smith and don’t want to do a 3 year deal without a trial that works both ways.

If he says No I want a long deal and we think he is the right man we can still go for it

I could see Arthur or Demetriou coming in for the remainder of the season on interim maybe. They wouldn't do any harm with Blease looking after recruitment and retention. If it works then great, if it doesn't we can be looking for the right man going into pre-season.

Without the fans baying for blood it might have made more sense to retain Smith until the end of the season but his position became untenable - I imagine we did have another coach in mind before we made the decision to sack him. Can't wait to see who we appoint, lots still to fix at Leeds but I'm feeling pretty good about the future at the moment.

Good interview with Blease in the YEP. Sounds very upbeat about the quality of applicants for the role. Doesn't give too much away but does suggest he's now done with the initial interviews and on to the decision making.

Interesting article by YEP with Blease, who seems to be saying it could be a few weeks yet before someone is appointed / announced. Seems to me if it were Rowley then the point would be to agree comp with Salford and he would be able to join, that doesn’t sound like a long task to complete. This leads me to think it will be someone from Aus and Arthur would be the favourite there I think. Getting Visas and agreeing the details around a family move isn’t as quick to close as a simply comp conversation with Salford. I’m expecting it to be BA.

I can see why the delay with Rowley compensation would need to be sorted out which may take some time.Surley with Arthur Blease could confirm without a visa plus I'm I think I read that Arthur said his family were up for a move to UK.It could also be that Blease hasn't made his mind up knowing this his first and most important decision.
