Well going by whose been given the big games this year then it was between him and Thaler, but he probably reffed his way out of contention tonight. He did the same last year with his showing in the playoff semi (Saints vs Catalans) losing him any chance he had of the GF the following week.

Still, the worst piece of refereeing I've seen in several years happened during the England / France match in Saturday when the Irish ref refused to review a blatant foul play - despite the clearly audible video ref suggesting multiple times he look at it - because the ball was "out of play" at the time. Really? You put your foot in touch then you can do anything you want?

From the perspective of giving a penalty, yes. It's the same in both codes of rugby. Once the ball is dead, you can't give a penalty IIRC.

You can however sanction the offending player with a yellow or red card.
