Interesting either way.
Depends how old you are. About the mid-70s I believe the previous first past the post system was brought in. Not in my life time either, but I still know it happened.

Durgh, was there Rugby League played before 1996? D'urgh did we decide the champions by a playoff before 1998?
You've demonstrated your knowledge of RL. If we didn't know to dismiss your wibble wibble before now we certainly do after this brain fart.

What an entertaining thread.
Its a pity that 99% of threads on this whole forum decline into a tit-for-tat, waste of bandwidth.
Much respect to Canyoubelieveit for trying to spark a decent debate, but alas, as with the lion's share of RLFANS threads, this one was doomed from the word go.
The reason there is "hatred" between Saints and Leeds (i use the term "hatred" sparingly, as i very much doubt there is any hate at all, just dislike), is the supporters' desire for a close rival, who will not be a dead cert win/loss and the good feeling/bragging rights that come with a victory over said team.
It isn't about "hating" the other team, its about gaining as much gratification from your own team as possible, and if there is no close rival, then winning any game or trophy loses a bit of that sought-after magic, as there really is nobody to brag to.
Good luck tonight for the game boys, though i don't think you'll need it and will trample us convincingly.
Safe journey both ways (though i'd imagine a lot of you lot are here already or are on the way over).

I think we're just great rivals at the moment. We hate you for beating us twice in the GF in spite of our success and we really want to tonk you in a GF this time around just to put you back in your place! But that's just rivalry. I personally don't hate anyone but I hate the idea of you guys getting one up on us! That's a good thing in sport I reckon. It helps motivate the supporters and the team. I hope!
We won't be tonking you tonight though, that's for sure! Whether we'll beat you I don't know. We hadn't got our act together as at the Salford game. Maybe tonight is the night ...
Meanwhile, I hope everyone has a safe journey over and enjoys themselves tonight in our decrepit old ground.
