Brilliant. Exactly this. Walker has played 4 games and he's dictating to Hetherington? Not a prayer that GH will cave in to the demands of a kid. For the record I'd keep him but I wouldn't go breaking the wage structure especially when we've given Golding a 5 year deal.

Spot on.
We ended up offering more to Smith and now other talented youngsters (and their agents) want more too. You offer Walker too much then the next young talent wants the same or more and so on and so on, and the ones that aren't even as talented at least want a closer amount.
For all of Gotcha's criticism of how Leeds operate, they do keep pretty much most of the players they want to keep so whilst he keeps saying it's wrong the evidence doesn't support that.

Which bit of the last two paragraphs of my response to Jonesy is a legend didn't you understand? You mention criticism.
And by the way you are incorrect on your last point, but that is seperate.

Do we not keep most of the ones we really want then? Sure we won't get everyone but that'd be true of every club and would happen even if Leeds had a different approach.
As for criticism you wrote "We can avoid these things though by DOING IT PROPERLY at beginning. As I said previously there is a big difference between what Leeds try to do, what market rate is, and what silly money is. I think Leeds will end up paying a lot more than HAD THEY DONE IT CORRECTLY at the start"

I think that'd fall under criticism.
And yet you still miss the last two paragraphs I directed you to, which I am sure even you would admit balanced out the issue.
But let's concentrate on the bit you put, and factually. Hetherington made an offer, it was derisory, and through the players agent it was refused. Jack gets coveted by other clubs setting a market rate. He makes a few first team appearances, and suddenly fans who had never heard of him hold him in high regard. Two man of the matches later, and Hetherington comes out in the press declaring they want to keep him, he is a future star, and a contract offer will be made. Come on mate, you are not seriously trying to say that offer will be the same as previous? And that being the case does that not make the initial attempt incorrect? Thus, had they done it correctly at the start would this be happening?
I know you seem to enjoy arguing on this board, and hell sometimes you are in the right. But come on, just look at something correctly for once, instead of the immediate position of defending the club position regardless, and that everyone is out to criticise for no reason. I will even admit, had the player rolled over and played ball then Leeds position would have been a winner, but at the same time you get caught out you end up paying for it one way or another.

No surprise at all. Actually said earlier in the year it's probably his agent throwing names around just to give his current club a kick up the backside. Some seem incapable of seeing how agents work.

And if they offered Walker more earlier and in these recent appearances he flopped would we be saying it was wise to break wage structure for it? Leeds have said before, show us something and you'll be rewarded, plenty of evidence they have.
You give Walker more before he'd even played a SL game and you just find yourself doing that more and more with more youngsters.
And if we'd have offered him more money early in the year and he signed do you honestly think his agent wouldn't be knocking on GH's door very soon after his recent showings asking for improved money again?

Gotcha, in negotiations do you go straight in with your best offer? Let's be honest, the lad is 17. He's done nothing in his career. Yes, he is promising but he can't be throwing his weight around (via his agent/management company.) All these rumours about wanting specialist coaching? You're 17!! All you need is game time at that age. Hetherington will negotiate but he isn't daft enough to offer a kid (who has done nothing at all) silly money. He wouldn't do it with Calderwood, Lee Smith etc, he won't start now.
