Quite enjoyed that. It’s February, the pitch was terrible and we’ve got a new spine. Edgell looks like he’ll be a decent player. Lisone was great last week and terrible this week. Bentley had a better game, tackled everything and made some great supporting runs. Still scares me though and looks likely to give a penalty away every tackle. Seen enough though to think we’ll be dangerous once the pitches dry out. Croft is the complete player

On the bright side we competed hard on an absolute glue patch and perhaps didn't get the luck we were always going to need to get the win. Impressed with Croft, Ackers, Smith and Bentley. Thought young Edgell did very well in the circumstances. Handley looks in tremendous nick this year, maybe a yard quicker than I've ever seen him. Ruan should have got more time. Won't be throwing my blue and amber rattle out of the pram as a result of this one. Desperately need Oledzki, Holroyd and Miller back next week.
Agree with all of that. Discipline and lack of grunt up front on a heavy pitch cost us but no dramas. I never get concerned when we lose if we’ve competed well. Some good signs still imo. We’re just held back a bit bit by our prop depth

Edgell did enough to show that he can be the understudy to Miller without having to shuffle the backline around. What was disappointing was the lack of discipline and field position in the 2nd half, very similar to last season. We won a game last week that was suggested we would have lost last season. Tonight was very much like last season, we competed well but came away with nothing.
Good pov Magic and from what I have seen and also a bit of side knowledge I believe Edgell is the real deal and should be promoted as often as possible, Miller is still in the same bracket as regards proven ability and question marks re fitness.
I know it's only week 2 and I desperately don't want to sound negative but.... The difference between the 2 teams was obvious tonight. They are a well coached team, with a game plan. We aren't. We're a really dumb team. We rely on worldie tries to keep us in games. Poor kicking, static attack, daft errors when we're on the back foot. It's all too familiar. Why on earth is Ruan only coming on after 73 mins?? Smith has 10-12 games to save his job. Looking at the next 5 games, I think we lose 4 of them.

Nail on the head about Bentley. He competes as hard as any player I've ever seen. It's just that so much of that effort is wasted. Made an unbelievable take off his knees from Croft's low pass but just couldn't reign in the instinct to throw a complete speculator in the next second. That was the game for me. I don't know how you temper that or if you should even try. Frustrating player.
The increase in sin bin offences.. the stupid VAR in football... its like no one wants any momentum In sport anymore... (although football is a business not a sport now)
Did we play better than against Salford? Sounded a pretty similar standard on the radio. Very patchy.

Let’s not go there yet. See where we are after 10 -12 games.
