In the second half we made more than an error every 3 minutes. Including 2 where we did not play the ball properly. That’s player error. How many we would have made if we’d matched the line speed/ aggression of Cas we’ll never know. Not wearing yourself out in defence needs you to be able to then attack with real speed and aggression. We barely moved the ball because for the main part we were in our own half getting dominated. For mine we should aim to be more aggressive when defending in their 25/30, we let every team out of pressure too easily.

I’m beginning to think that GH got lucky with the golden generation coming though around a similar period. We need need a new direction. We should never have been in this situation to begin with.
I wanted an experienced coach to come in last year but for mine we have to stick with Smith, he’s exited many players that most on here were calling for. I think last year he overachieved a bit getting to a GF. We made so many errors against FC and Cas and should have won both.
We aren’t going to get a top NRL coach and SL this year looks very competitive. For next year we need a bit of quality like Wire have recruited Dufty and Vaughan and Williams.
This year could get really bumpy like Wire last season IF he does not want to not renew many coming off contract. If it gets worse again I think we need to plough on and take it and then see what he can do with his own team in 2024. Think we need to stay the course with him and not change coach

At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious the Catalan game may give a true indication of our progress this season . If we are heavily beaten then question’s really need to be asked. The scenario is similar to Hull at saints last night, credit to Hull they played well and could quite easily have won.

Don’t think we’ll get heavily beaten , but Cas are awful to play C against. They’ll lie on , wrestle, slow it all down. If we get a weak ref, will def get beat. Won’t be a disaster as we’re not expected to win……

Not certain about not expected to win. Catalan did a job on Wigan although Wigan were poor on the night. Catalan still have a few injuries problem. I really think we should be winning this one. Agree about cas, always rise to the occasion against Leeds, I thought balance of probabilities indicated we would be turned over. Best of luck to them, think last is a good honest hard working coach.

I agree Id like to see a reaction from Thursday- were back at home live on channel 4 against a good side. I think we’ve only lost one game at home under Smith.
It was always going to the start of the 24" season before we get to see the team he wants/ has not just inherited. The clearing has begun in earnest after so many years of postponed departures.
If we can finish in top 6/4 and get to a cc semi then it's not a bad season, given where we were the last few years and how many changes the team will be going through.
Easing Newman in has led to a few odd bench selections/ headaches...but if he threw him in the deep end and he went down he would be getting mullered for that.
