Tapau's a free agent because he's been shot for years. No idea why his name keeps being thrown up on here.
I saw Myler was talking about a new contract yesterday. He's 32 now and he'll be 34 by the time his current contract runs out in 2024. He shouldn't even be contracted beyond next year, never mind talking about a new deal.

Agree OWL. Taupau is too old. Same age as Prior?
And as for Myler, yes he's our current first choice FB, but no way should have another contract beyond 2 years. In the WC for Ireland he has been poor against decent teams. Hopefully Hooley comes through or we need another FB.

You really can't argue with the recruitment approach the club is taking. All the players we have brought in are in their 20's. And we're not giving silly deals to those in their 30's and we're letting them go (Hardaker, Thompson, Prior). It's a sensible strategy.
The likes of Leutele, Langi, Taupau, JWH don't fit that bill. The incoming centre will be in the same mould as the other signings I expect. In their 20's and not necessarily a superstar.
We might not win stuff next year, but this is trying to build a competitive squad for the future.
Much prefer this strategy to short-termism, big name signings (e.g. Wire).

Richie can talk about a new contract, it's his prerogative.
However, even he must think in the back of his mind that it's unrealistic.

Yes. Talking about a new contract two seasons out from the end of a current one is a sure sign of a player who knows he won't get a better offer elsewhere. Factor in that full back is now THE key attacking position, and Rohan’s ruthless streak, and I wouldnt be surprised if next year proved to be his last.
