Ben and Shane Walker, Ipswich Jets.

You want replacements and to win again...cheap option but they'll win you the league.

It's been fun.

It's a good call on the type of football they coach, but not sure Ben Walker would want to come back to Leeds...

Smith got us that elusive 1st title in 30+ years then won it again before departing with another GF app a CC final app & a WCC win thrown in.
Bluey got us back to back GF wins which completed a 3peat along with a WCC win & CC final apps.
Mcdermott has done the lot as Coach but now his time looks to be coming to an end & i think losing Sinfield/JP has left him somewhat exposed & us rudderless.
There comes a time when a change is just what's needed this includes players & Coaches alike despite
Circumstances i think that time has arrived.

Be careful what you wish for. So in addition to dumping last years coach of the year you also want a clear out of players. Will your list be based on form and performances this year? Problem is the transfer value of the likes of Watkins, Hardaker, Sutcliffe, Singleton, Ablett and Hall must have plummeted by now.

Excellent call.

The Walker Bros coaching methodology explained HERE... which won Ipswich Jets the QLD Cup last season along with the NRL State Championship on NRL Grand Final day.

Never be "careful" what i wish for in RL as shown in the OP we've let successful Coaches go before.
In terms of certain players you've mentioned PMSL they have a much longer shelf life than any Coach especially in SL but othes such as Burrow Achurch Delaney arent having the impact we need in terms of their standing within the SC. Then we also have the likes of Galloway/Falloon who have been average at best thus far so a call needs to be made there.
As a side issue id also say we need to get on board with the reserve team venture which will require another Coach imo & give regular RL for those fringe players not playing on dual reg nor u19 RL.

You can't just get rid of contracted players. They don't have to go even if you don't want them.

BTW Furner was a disaster as head coach.

How much of the Walkers success is down to just having players who are better than their opposites?

Watching a montage of Ipswich tries from last season, a lot were very reminiscent of Leeds in 2004 - individual player makes a break with strength/footwork/speed and there's a flood of support to finish it off. That's not really what Leeds problem is right now, they need a structure to work from rather than relying on individual brilliance to create opportunities.

Leeds can't and shouldn't be making wholesale changes to the playing squad but they have to do something.

Often a change in leadership can focus the minds of players. When Tony Smith took over at Leeds his first act was massively symbolic, he didn't select Francis Cummins ending his run of consecutive appearances.

Have Leeds ever started a season as poor as this - both in terms of results and performances. I've been watching Leeds for a while (but not as long as some on here) and I can't recall a worse start.

IMO, head coaches are all about legacy - leaving a club in a better state than it was in when they took over. We've had such coaches in the not too distant past - two of them are still improving other SL clubs today.

I'm a firm believer that sometimes a change of voice is needed. Some of these players will have been listening to McDermott for almost six years now, in some cases the whole of their professional careers. When you're hearing the same voice telling you the same things day in, day out for that long, does it blur into background noise after a while?

While there's very little scope at the moment in terms of leaving players out, does that also cause players to lose focus slightly knowing that no matter how much he might shout and bluster the coach isn't going to be able to drop them for the next game because he doesn't have any alternatives?

There's a reconstruction job needed at Leeds, both on and off the field. Maybe the best person to do that isn't one with links to the past, in the way that Tony Smith was able to come in and look at Powell's side without any emotional baggage relating to certain players.

Totally agree AG id also say that expands across the whole Coaching set up and revert to having a FT Acadamy director &an indipendant u19's Coach.
Id have 1 or 2 1st team assts Coaching a reserve grade as well.
