Even so, take that out of the equation, and he still made more than 100m more that the great Scott. Most of that will account for his long break in the second half, which he passed to McGuire, who got ankle tapped (top effort that) IIRC.

The break that indeed led to McGuire being ankle tapped was from JJB.
Hall's lengthy break led to him running out of gas at half way and being caught on the outside by Dick Van Dyke. I don't need statistics to tell me that in the same situation Donald would've been grounding the ball beneath the sticks.

So between Halls break and interception, that may account for a large chunk of his metres gained over Donald (and the fact he was kicked to more).
