Are you sure it was Lee Smith? Are you sure Lee Smith's mates' interpretation of events is entirely accurate?

Newsflash. I actually played a bit of rugby with Lee's brother last night. I could've asked him and posted it all over here. It would've been more accurate than your inside scoop but a) I wouldn't put him in that situation and b) you can NEVER reach a conclusion about what is the truth without hearing BOTH sides.

All you know is what the mate of a player who probably feels aggrieved has told you at a match. Its' not conclusive in any way shape or form.

That is grown up talk but, frankly, it was a lot less effort to just post

Quote:Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

Thats interesting then is that one, because the same lad was telling me about Smiths brother at a game last year.

I dont know his brother by the way. But this lad commented that Smiths brother actually had more natuaral talent than Lee, and was a very good player who could have made it. But he had a problem with drink (not alcholic problem) and not the right attitude. Apparently Smiths brother accepts this and realizes he could have done more.

He also said Rugby League is not natural to Lee Smith, but that he is just a natural sportsman, and was actually best at cricket.

Out of interest how true is that?

And by the way, I proclaimed no scoop. There were a couple of other posters on here saying pretty much the same as me that nothing had been agreed to go yet. Secondly out of interst, what in a blue moon, has listening to both sides got to do with anything?

I've knocked about with his brother a couple of times and he's a pretty decent player. I was told recently he was on Leeds' books which surprised me as I didn't think he was THAT good. BTW, I don't know if he has older brother but I think this is his younger brother.

Knowing both sides is very important because you've reached a definitive conclusion.

Quote:That did not happen, and has still not happend. In that time now Wasps have come in. Had we sorted the issue out in October we would probably (although not certainly) not be facing this now. That could be regarded as lapse management, or at the very least pure arrogance.

reaching such a conclusion based upon what his mate told you and without knowing the clubs point of view is just, well daft. That is why I was laughing.

I'm not saying you are wrong, and nor am I not saying the club dont have a point of view. I was only playing devils advocate.

But the lad who sits behind me is certainly a good friend of Smiths and Scrutons, and like I said Smith was sat with him last year for a game in the lads old mans place. He certainly knows a lot about him. He was clear at the Wakey game that no contract had been offered from Leeds yet. But I didn't speak to him at the Wigan game, things could have changed.

Meanwhile, Smith's switch to rugby union could happen before the end of the current Super League season.

The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed yesterday that Wasps are keen to sign Smith, whose Rhinos contract expires at the end of the year. The Guinness Premiership outfit are understood to want Smith in their squad in time for pre-season training, in June.

Super League's anti-tampering rules don't apply to union clubs, so Wasps are free to approach Smith at any time.

Should a deal be confirmed, Rhinos would have to decide whether to release the player early, in mid-season – as Bradford Bulls did with Lesley Vainikolo and Shontayne Hape, to Gloucester and Bath rugby union clubs.

UNSUBSTANTIATED SPECULATION

Ifs buts and maybes at very best
My reading is Bluey likes to play his cards very close to his chest and so without anything concrete the newsboys have to revert to invention

Is Peter Smith not as cosy with the Rhinos these days then?

At one point he was virtually gary's PR man. Not sure wherther his salary came from the YEP or Leeds CF&A ltd

I mustn't be nasty to the previous two posters but come on. really. FFS.

Bad management.

Why?

Do you know what money Wasps have offered Smith? Do you know how much he has demanded to stay?

I'd imagine it would be bad management by GH to match Wasps offer.

So if Smith is going to leave anyway, why not release him early and get a transfer fee.

Let's face it, now Webb is fit, he's going back to the wing fast and we've got Donald and Hall

Bad management? Idiots!

I reckon Smith doesnt like McClennan.
