All Sheens said was that he has had to teach him the basics in reading defensive structures that he would have assumed a 27 year old International would have know already. He has always stated that Ellis would start though. He's thier star signing this off season and has really impressed in the trials.
My comment was tongue in cheek but Sheens went a bit further than that. As well as commenting on how poor he reads defence he also said.
Quote:You're not looking for him to be involved as a ball player. He can play with the ball – he's certainly going to add to our game – but it's a three-year deal and he will build over that period."
"I don't want supporters thinking that he's going to score three tries a game and set-up three."
"We see him as a very good strike player on the right-hand side and we're giving him time to settle in on patterns of play and calls and getting to know the guys."
"He's going to have teething problems but nothing great – the kid can play
I actually agree wit much of what Sheens says. Ellis did virtually nothing offensively during his Leeds career and did fly out of defence a lot. Having said that it speaks volumes for our game that he was the best British 2nd rower around.
