Just. Listened to Wednesdays meeting at the shay and it appears the focus will be on retention rather than recruitment with perhaps a more tight budget, with some more retentions to be announced in the coming weeks we should be hopeful of keeping as much of this current squad as possible

Jouffret (end of 2024)
Walmsey ( end of 2024)
Keyes ( end of 2023)
Wood ( end of 2023)
Arundal (end of 2023)
Aston ( end of 2023)

Based on the interview it appears woodburn hall will be staying , out of the new signings I’d like to keep gwaze and gee.

The next few weeks n months should be interesting.

I'm sure they said there would be an additional signing / re signing announced next week.

Yes that’s why I’ve put it up as I expect they’ll be announcing the retentions week on week now .

The way I read the situation is this : we’ve recruited a lot over the last 2 seasons, certainly improved the quality of the squad, however a combination of covid and the cost of living crisis means attendances haven’t reached our projections combined with other clubs such as Widnes , Newcastle, keighley are expected to spend big with a potential restructure looming we’ll be worried. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of our not local players for example gee/ Murray signed for someone logistical closer just because of the cost of fuel, getting to training 2/3 times a week is probably expensive.

Anyway it seems croad and Grix are doing there best to keep our better players on board , one positive is the team spirit is good and that might sway some players to stay for another couple of years .

That's the best news yet, the spine of the team sorted for at least 1 more year. I think JWH is our only player whose consistently shown over the last 2 seasons that he could play in superleague.

Great to have JWH onboard, need to get Matty Gee tied up next if at all possible.

And Tibbs. Chester Butler is out of contract at the Giants. What are your thoughts of having him back.

I liked Chester when he was here and was playing well enough for the Giants to take a closer look, since then he has been plagued with one injury after another so there could be a question mark over his fitness and does he want to keep putting his body on the line and all the rehab involved.

Not sure he fits in SG's thoughts in the past or present and the likes of Tibbs clearly are so I will guess he won't be back at Fax.

Bulls fans clearly rate Chester but as has been said, not sure he fits in with SG's plans
