Given that it’s been quiet for a few weeks I’d like to take the opportunity to give my thoughts on what I expect from Halifax and Grix this season, just watched a you tube video which sums up how I think Grix views the forwards in particular https://youtu.be/e_D8kai1PTY , some interesting points made on the modern game . I watched the Bradford game and I can’t get my head round how semi professional forwards can be so out of shape , with Scott Grix in charge of strength and conditioning with us and helping out at Leeds I’m expecting an Uber fit stamina based side and with Liam Finn working with Aston , jouffret and Keyes some exciting play in the halves , looking forward to this season.

Well I heard from a semi reliable source that he was part of the strength and conditioning team at Leeds rhinos but when I went on there website there was no mention of him so I passed it off as waffle till I saw this video https://youtu.be/qVRHHEYq2zQ there’s glimpses of him there so obviously there was some validity to the rumour , rather than me saying he was definitely part of the rhinos team I felt the term ‘ helping out ‘seemed more appropriate.

Mmm? I'm not a fan of having our players/coaches involved with other clubs. Let's just hope he was there to spy on't Fev players. :D

On the heavier pitches at the start of the season the forwards will have to do a good grit and grind shift and there’s no better way to get match fit than in that environment, the more expansive stuff will likely come later.
This can be be good if you get a decent run in the side but not so good if you regularly don’t make the 17 so there should be plenty of incentive to be as fit as you can as early as you can.
Early tactics will be to see who can front up, stick to the training ground game plans and which combinations are working and those which aren’t.

I take your point but I think having healthy relationships with quality clubs can be beneficial, I was listening to an interview with Brian Mac who said one of the differences between the part time and full time environment is the sports science available, if we can drip feed that information to our players it’s an advantage, I’ve heard players like Elliot Morris comment that it’s the most professional outfit in training he’s seen at fax and I put this down to the back room staff changes . I also believe Scott will have had influence on the signings of joe arundal and Kyle wood with is Wakefield connection, whatever industry you’re in having a familiar face when deciding a new career can be a bonus point . I’m just hoping Scott is taking a similar approach in nagging Ollie roberts to join on loan as despite all the signings would love someone of is ilk at the club .

It’s a shame the Bradford game didn’t go ahead as I think kear and Grixs game plans are opposing views both in terms of personnel and tactically . Like you say it’ll be interesting to see how expansive Halifax are on the early winter pitches . The Bradford vs Batley friendly game was an example of that attritional rugby .

Another point on tactics, fitness, attrition, seasonal factors and the halves and pack working together.

Expansive plays maybe limited so the focus can change to suit.

The 6 & 7 will have chance to get their kicking game perfected with long term benefits as a result.

Kicking accurate and deep works well all year round and fits in with Grixs philosophy of expending your fitness and energy in the right area of the pitch in the oppositions red zone.

Yes looking forward to the new halves this year as our short kicking game especially was lacking last season, the number of repeat sets in the opponent’s half that didn’t result in any points was a negative for me , I felt we were more dangerous from long range hopefully the new lads will rectify this . Having said that I did rate Liam Harris and suspect he might cause us some problems when we face York .

And preseason apart, to really put all that’s be mentioned to the test, the first league game at Batley will be just the right team on the right pitch at the right time.
