Just read the Yorkshire Post report and it states:-
"I take no positives from that game whatsoever" was the blunt response of coach Matt Calland after watching his Halifax side fall victim to a well drilled Toulouse Olympique outfit in difficult conditions in the South of France. Guilty of trying to push the ball in the stiff breeze and pouring rain, missed tackles, poor defensive options, laboured timing on attack which led to a couple of potential tries chalked off for obstruction and a plethora of dropped passes, the visitors were knocked out of their stride by some determined French tackling. Toulouse played the conditions well, keeping the ball tight and using their big set of forwards and massive bench to good effect. And so it goes on ....
This for me is a very accurate report on events as one who was there and as I have highlited above sums up where we struggle time after time and why yes I do look at the coach and ask why? Every time we play a 'well drilled' and 'good tackling' team we struggle like mad and often lose, even with an attack like ours!
Thing is we got no better in the second half and did not learn from our mistakes in the first half, we still try silly passes and throwing the ball around even when we, as this reporter says, needed to keep things tight. My worry is yer we missed Big Frank (will he play again this season?) and Aizue but they are not more than 20 minute men anyway nowadays and we lacked punch which we did even last week against Cas Lock Lane (how many line busts did we have last week in the CC?).
yer its just the start of the season but I think we have too many young lads in the pack and its where you need a mix but our old heads are well sorry to say, too old! This league is all about 2 good props and at least one decent half back feeding off them, same every year and has been since we came dwon. Oh for a Kopzack!

It dosnt matter how good your backs are if your forwards cant lay the platform and at the moment we all know where our weakness lies.

Never a truer word spoken about the game of rugby. Either code.
