Before Sunday we had not lost a game in all competitions, forced a Super League club into golden point and let kids in for a quid and still we only just topped 2000 at home. I know that Sheffield don't have a great travelling support but we should have had more through the turnstile, especially after the Cas match, than we did. Everyone was buzzing after that game. What do we need to do? If we can't get the fans through the turnstiles when we are playing the best rugby in years then we can kiss goodbye to a franchise and Super League. What do you think? |

I know I expted to be getting close to 2,500 at this point but still was a foul day. We would have got 1500 in this fixture 2 years ago so don't be too expectant |

Posted this on the Widnes board in response to a question: littlerich wrote:In part, got to agree with Pepe and people have openly stated that they won't come down unless we're playing SL opposition. There's a two pronged attack the club must take.
1 - to entice those who used to attend 8 year ago. This is difficult given how dissapointed these people were by the 2003 season. 2 - to entice NEW supporters - equally difficult given the chioce of other cheaper entertainment on offer (Sky Sports, X-box, Wii etc..) Widnes can get 3,000 to 4,000 no sweat and i certainly envy you of that. The brand of rugby we're playing (apart from Sunday ) is great to watch. Only time will tell if the people of Calderdale deserve a SL club at all. For the last two years we got 1,519 and 1,654 for the Sheffield game so the increase to 2,212 is obviously not good enough. It's worrying. If we perform well for the next two years and win a couple of trophy's and still can't get 3,000 to 4,000 then i think we need not bother applying for a franchise. There's already two or three lame duck attendance getters in Super League - we don't need another. |

We've broke the 3000 barrier twice this year. |

If and only IF we win the NRC & the GF - then next season if we're still hovering around the 2,200 mark then i would have to agree with that statement. Is there potential for 3,000+ ? yes i think so but some astute marketing policies by the club is needed. |
