I haven't been supporting Fax long enough to know of him. Could someone please elaborate on his career with Fax, please? |

Alan debut on 28/11/1959 v Wigan (joining from Featherstone) and last game was 22/8/1964 v Batley (he joined Hunslet for £3,500). He had 152 appearances (including 1 as sub) scoring 23 tries. Described as the best defensive half back the club ever had at only 5 feet 7 inches he was famous for his tough clean tackling. He was brother of Jack Marchant who also played at Fax. He was captain of the Yorkshire winning cup team in 1963/64. But played at a time when fax where spending most of their time fighting relegation. His biggest game was Wigan’s 20-16 defeat of Hunslet in 1965 Cup Final, which is often said to be the best cup final since the war as it was give and take game. He was the main reason the Hunslet Team got to Wembley. Indeed another sad loss. |
